Frequently asked questions
Is the Hunter Valley known for Chardonnay?
Yes. The Hunter Valley is Australia's oldest wine region and one of the homes of Australian Chardonnay, which has been made here for decades. First Creek has been crafting Hunter Valley Chardonnay since 1998.
Is First Creek Chardonnay oaked or unoaked?
Lightly oaked. We use restrained French oak to add texture and richness without covering the fruit, so the white peach, citrus and fine minerality still lead.
Is Chardonnay dry or sweet?
Our Chardonnay is dry. The ripe stone-fruit character can read as fruity, but there is no added sweetness.
What food pairs with Hunter Valley Chardonnay?
Roast chicken, grilled prawns, creamy pasta and soft cheese are all natural partners. The lighter Classic suits fresh seafood, while the richer Winemaker's Reserve can stand up to a fuller meal.
How long can you cellar Hunter Valley Chardonnay?
The Classic is best enjoyed within a year or two of release. Our Single Vineyard and Winemaker's Reserve Chardonnays will hold and develop for several years in a cool, dark cellar.
Who makes First Creek's Chardonnay?
Liz Silkman and the Silkman family team. Liz is a four-time Hunter Valley Winemaker of the Year and Halliday Winemaker of the Year for 2025, so the Chardonnay is in very experienced hands.
